exploring poetic interfaces
How can interfaces support slow and meditative interaction in a fast paced world? How would it feel to be able to tune in and interact directly with digital bits of data? How would you interact with a device if it could read your mind through your movements? (Peter Bennett in his research on Resonant Bits)
We project explored new ways of interactions focused on the abstract concepts of resonance and poetics and my installation bpm visualizes the hidden rhythm within our body by connecting the mechanics of a metronome to a visual heart rate sensor.
reflection
Exploring the concepts of poetic interfaces, allowed me to rethink how we perceive interactions and how abstract concepts like resonance and poetics might/must be embedded into these. Working on the technical realisation of the bpm installation was quite challenging. Having a very clear picture of the final piece in mind, I stayed extremely impatient during the different sub-steps of its final technical implementation. Even though this process enabled me to learn a lot about these underlying processes, I think technologically more basic and thus quicker prototyping methods would have allowed me to develop the installation much further both meaningfully and aesthetically.
